Job Summary

Help Empower Youth Through Music and Arts: Are you passionate about supporting youth empowerment through music and arts education? Do you have professional experience and skills you’d like to share or an opportunity to develop these skills?

YEAH! (Youth Empowerment through Arts and Humanities) is a Nashville-based nonprofit with a mission to further empower youth of all backgrounds, especially the underrepresented and marginalized, ages 6-17 through transformative, inclusive music education in an equitable community. YEAH! has positively impacted over 700 families in the past 20 years.

Board Members hold a fiduciary responsibility for the management of organizational capital and ensuring appropriate filings with federal, state, and local authorities consistent with the organization’s status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Additional required responsibilities include:

The Board of Directors of Youth Empowerment Through Arts & Humanities (YEAH!)  draws its membership from the Middle Tennessee community and beyond. Members include current and former camp volunteers and parents, along with community members who support the organization’s mission.

Job Responsibilities

What we expect from our Board members:

  1. Serve a two-year term beginning from the date of appointment.
  2. Attend all board meetings, either in person or virtually, with active participation in discussions.
  3. Meetings take place monthly between 6-8 pm. If you are unable to attend any meeting, we will arrange for an alternative time when a member of the Executive Committee can update you on current activities, either in person or via phone or email.
  4. Make a yearly financial contribution of $1,000.00 per year.
    -This is a minimum that can also be contributed through the acquisition of funding opportunities or other contribution arrangements agreed upon with the Board Member and the rest of the Board.We encourage you to consider a gift that demonstrates leadership in giving and feels meaningful to you and your family. 100% Board giving is our goal, as some funders may set this as a criterion for grant eligibility.
  5. To serve as an advocate for YEAH! and leverage their personal, professional, and community relationships to help secure individual and business/corporate contributions for YEAH!
  6. Attend and/or participate in YEAH!’s programs, showcases, and community events whenever possible, to better understand and experience the organization’s mission and impact.
  7. Serve on a minimum of one committee (Governance, Marketing, Programs), which can invite outside members.
  8. The expectations outlined above reflect a commitment of time and resources that will provide the rewarding and appropriate engagement required for YEAH!’s governance. Our organization’s continued growth and sustainability require dedicated leadership from a board of directors who are willing and able to actively support YEAH!’s values, mission, and vision.

Qualifications

 

To ensure the effective governance and strategic direction of YEAH!, we seek board members with the following qualifications:

1. A passion for music and youth empowerment.

2. Experience in one or more of the following areas: education, non-profit management, finance, law, fundraising, marketing, community outreach, or music/arts education.

3. An active member and contributor in one or more diverse and marginalized communities.

4. Demonstrated ability to contribute to fundraising efforts, including securing donations and sponsorships.

5. Understanding of and commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within the organization and the community.

6. Willingness and ability to attend regular board meetings, participate in committee and community events, and engage in fundraising activities.

7. Ability to contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans and initiatives.

8. Strong connections within diverse community groups and the ability to leverage those connections to benefit YEAH!.

9. Effective communication and collaboration skills.

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

1. Prior board of directors or leadership experience

2. Non-profit experience

3. Youth mentorship

4. Event planning and execution

5. Advocacy and public policy experience related to arts, education, and youth programs.
